Brief description of course: A unique, fun and successful approach to fall prevention! The Six-Step Balance System is a powerful yet simple program, designed to help individuals prevent falls by practicing and repeating a series of movements and simple exercises regularly. It includes FUN things like practicing: Stretching in Bed, "Jiggle Wiggle" and "Dancing with your Pillow". Participants learn to discover the body's natural ability to balance; increase leg strength, improve mobility and flexibility and reduce the FEAR of falling. This program increases self-confidence and helps develop a sense of overall well-being, both mental and physical. The book "How to Prevent Falls: Better Balance, Independence and Energy in 6 Simple Steps" by Dr. Betty Perkins-Carpenter is used as the course manual with each participant receiving a copy. The exercises and activities in this book are studied and practiced in this course.
